Introduction

CASA Volunteers—A Powerful Voice for Abused and Neglected Children. Over one million American children are confirmed victims of abuse and neglect each year; at any given time, over 500,000 are in foster care. Many of these children are further victimized by the nation’s overburdened child welfare systems. Moved frequently from home to home and school to school, they often suffer additional disadvantages. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are trained community volunteers appointed by the court to provide a powerful voice for these vulnerable children. Last year, the National CASA Association’s 946 member local and state program offices and nearly 58,000 CASA volunteers helped over 220,000 children reunite safely with their birth families or find new permanent families.

Partnership Highlights

ChoicePoint understands the importance of providing a safe environment for children and is proud to support National CASA’s work in a variety of ways. ChoicePoint provides significant discounts to CASA programs on vital background screening services offered through Volunteers Select Plus, also making a donation to National CASA each time a background screen is ordered. In addition to financial support, key partnership goals are raising awareness and recruiting volunteers for CASA programs nationwide.

CASA volunteers are an amazing force for good, but we need more of them. Our greatest need is to recruit volunteers that reflect the diversity of the children we serve. Read more on our efforts to recruit volunteers of color.

The benefits that a CASA volunteer provides a foster child have been well documented:
  • 95% of children do not languish in long-term foster care.
  • 90% of children do not reenter the child welfare system.

Our vision is that every child who needs a volunteer will have one. With your help, we can reach that goal. Learn more about the many ways to support National CASA in this effort.
