Ken Mekeel supports the public safety product development, marketing and sales teams. He works closely with public safety agencies to understand their needs, and in turn, help LexisNexis Risk Solutions develop and enhance solutions that improve agency efficiencies and achieve their goals.
Mr. Mekeel joined LexisNexis Risk Solutions after serving over 34 years in the New York City Police Department (NYPD) as an active duty law enforcement officer. He retired as Inspector and Commanding Officer for the NYPD Real Time Crime Center, a state-of-the-art command center with citywide responsibility for providing immediate and comprehensive intelligence on criminal and terrorist activity through a complex network of digital and surveillance data. Previously, he held a variety of command positions, including Commanding Officer at the Detective Bureau Queens Major Crimes Unit; Division Commander and Investigative Coordinator for Detective Bureau Queens Commanding Officer at NYPD’s Detective Bureau Training and Counter Terrorism Unit; Commanding Officer and Executive Officer of various NYPD Precinct Commands; and Commanding Officer of NYPD’s Scuba Team. Mr. Mekeel was also the Incident Leader for Identifications for the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner after the 2001 World Trade Center attacks.
During his career, he has presented and collaborated with EUROPOL at The Hague in the Netherlands, as well as presented at numerous industry events, including the International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA) on Mass Fatality Management and International Association of Chiefs of Police conferences. He has appeared on PBS Nova as a subject matter expert discussing the Boston bombing and utilization of facial recognition, as well as on the BBC addressing data technology and modern investigations.
Mr. Mekeel was an active member on the Federal Bureau of Investigation Facial Identification Scientific Working Group, Eastern Regional Director for IHIA and committee member for the National Incident Management Systems. He is currently serves on the Board of Governors for the American Academy for Professional Law Enforcement.
Mr. Mekeel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Psychology from the State University of New York at Oneonta, and is accredited as a Certified Project Management Professional through the Learning Tree International.
