Consumer insights that turn challenges into opportunities

The high cost of in-person inspections puts carriers in a difficult position

Carriers shouldn’t have to cherry-pick which properties get inspected, but the high cost of boots-on-the-ground inspections makes it hard to get a complete view of risk on as many properties as carriers would like.

That’s a problem, because 70% of U.S. homeowners rely on their carrier to ensure they have adequate home insurance. Turn challenges into opportunities with consumer insights.

New research from LexisNexis® Risk Solutions reveals that

  • 72% of homeowners are willing to pay higher premiums to have the right coverage and limits in their home insurance policy
  • At renewal, 82% of homeowners assume more or equal responsibility as their carrier for collecting information to determine insurance coverage
  • 71% of homeowners who are aware of a consumer-led mobile method for home inspections like it—compared to 65% of those who are aware of and like in-person inspections

Our research also uncovered two distinct customer segments.

  • Homeowners with the Set It & Forget It mentality (47%) are more distanced from their home insurance and may be more likely to have hidden risks to their property. By offering a mobile method for visual inspection, carriers can uncover hidden risks and ensure homeowners have adequate coverage—especially at renewal.
  • Homeowners with the Insurance Involved mentality (37%) are more engaged with their home insurance. By offering a mobile method for visual inspection, carriers can engage these homeowners while mitigating the operational costs of serving them.
