Catalytic Converter Thefts An Alternative Approach for Analytical Support

Catalytic converter thefts have become a pervasive issue across the United States, garnering attention for the increasing frequency and disruptive impact on victims and communities. 

This case study examines how a state-wide auto theft task force requested the assistance of the LexisNexis® Public Safety Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to conduct an analysis of available statewide data to examine the issue of catalytic theft more closely. This task force did not have the necessary resources available to dedicate to deep analysis of this problem but needed to identify and track the thefts. Seeking an alternative approach, the SIU conducted a thorough analysis of data for the task force, assisting them in achieving their operational goals to combat the issue.
