LexisNexis® Risk Solutions today announced the company has been awarded a contract by the State of Indiana to provide its identity management solutions to the Indiana Department of Revenue. LexisNexis will verify and authenticate taxpayers’ identities when they file for Indiana income tax refunds during the 2014 tax season. The contract award is part of Indiana’s identity protection program, which will educate taxpayers about protecting their identities and preventing tax refund fraud.

“Identity theft and tax fraud are growing crimes that affect Hoosiers every year,” said Indiana Department of Revenue Commissioner Mike Alley. “To meet this increasing threat, the department will use the LexisNexis verification services to further protect taxpayers’ identities and their refunds.”

The LexisNexis identity management solutions use identity-based filters to screen tax refund requests against billions of LexisNexis identity records collected from public databases and commercial sources. As an additional level of protection, some taxpayers will be asked to complete an Identification Confirmation Quiz. This series of identity confirmation questions, which only an individual with authentic, personal knowledge could answer, will further confirm Hoosier identities.

The Identity Confirmation Quiz will be accessible securely online on the Indiana Department of Revenue’s website or by calling the department. Further instructions about this quiz will be provided to the selected taxpayers via a letter sent by the Department of Revenue.
