LexisNexis Chief Medical Officer to Brief Members of Congress on Using Big Data and Analytics to Improve Health Care Quality and Clinical Outcomes

Company to Participate in HIMSS Foundation’s Institute for e-Health Policy Capitol Hill

4/7/2014

ATLANTA (April 7, 2014) – LexisNexis® Risk Solutions announced today that Peter Edelstein, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, will participate on a panel of health care industry experts at the HIMSS Foundation’s Institute for e-Policy Capitol Hill briefing on Thursday, April 10, 2014.  Dr. Edelstein will discuss success stories about how data and analytics have improved population health management, as well as focus on how data and analytics can be used by hospitals, Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), providers and payers to improve patient engagement, health care quality and clinical outcomes.

Why: The Affordable Care Act (ACA) changed the way health care industry stakeholders look at big data and analytics.  The ACA encourages providers, ACOs, hospitals and payers to eliminate siloed patient data, where possible, in favor of enabling data sharing.  Doing so is intended to improve patient care while fostering accountability and evidence-based outcomes.  But, with more data available than ever, health care stakeholders need to understand how to make big data and analytics work for them and the public policy implications of this new health and health care data landscape.
