ATLANTA – LexisNexis® Risk Solutions announced today that several of its leading health care experts will speak at the 23rd Annual Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) National Conference being held May 12–15 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, California.  LexisNexis experts will address the role of new data sources and analytics in improving health care outcomes and bringing greater efficiencies to the health care industry and how to combat identity-based health care fraud.

LexisNexis experts will participate in the following sessions:

What: “What’s in a Name?  Finding Fraud in Government Health Care Programs”
The cost of health care fraud is exorbitant.  Improper payments in Medicare alone totaled $44 billion in 2012.  Fraud often begins with stolen identity information to apply for health care benefits online, however identity management solutions are now being used to verify and authenticate customers.  The Florida Department of Children and Families has saved more than $12 million with its statewide identity analytics program.  Massachusetts Health Insurance Connector Authority is leveraging data analytics and linking technology solutions to verify the residency information of individuals seeking to participate in the exchange.  Both case studies represent viable, proven initiatives to detect and prevent health care fraud.

Ms. Moore, a former CIO with the State of Maryland, brings insight on identity fraud being perpetrated throughout the U.S. related to health care and Medicaid benefits; and advice on how to fight it; as well as highlights on how other states are fighting the fraudsters whether they are beneficiaries or providers.

What: Predicting What’s Next: Predictive Analysis”
Predictive analytics enables providers to identify patients in need of intervention or different care measures more accurately by incorporating complex statistical and analytical techniques along with various meaningful clinical factors to identify trending patterns and effective predictive risk scores.  These predictions can be used as powerful tools in guiding health care providers to focus clinical attention and resources on specific inpatients who are truly at higher or growing risk to prevent an unwanted clinical event or outcome.
