Opening remarks on government healthcare policy and emerging trends in mitigating the impact of the Opioid epidemic
Why:
Talcove will discuss the role of data and analytics in helping to mitigate the opioid epidemic. In particular, he will cover how using Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) data can be used to help prioritize risk, so providers can intervene earlier and help prevent negative health outcomes.
SDOH data can take many forms, but often is limited to minimal identity data readily available to an agency – and is far too often providing only a small glimpse into a patient. SDOH can be much more effective when looking at a more complete picture of a person, which can be formed by utilizing robust identity data sets, such as those in public records.
By using extensive identity data sets, scoring and analytics that go beyond medical claims data, an agency can address the questions such as “Is the patient facing personal hardship?”or “Has the patient recently transitioned from active duty to veteran status and is isolated from friends or family?” By scoring and prioritizing those at risk – and those likely to seek help, medical professionals can develop clinical programs based on these socioeconomic needs.
