ATLANTA — The LexisNexis® Risk Solutions healthcare business has identified the breast cancer treatment facilities in the U.S. with the highest patient volumes, based on its analysis of annual patient volume data ending in June 2018. The volume data is derived from medical claims data and highlighted the following facilities:

  • Cleveland Clinic Foundation – Cleveland, Ohio
  • Dana-Farber Cancer Institute – Boston, Mass.
  • El Paso Cancer Treatment Center – El Paso, Texas
  • Massachusetts General Hospital – Boston, Mass.
  • Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center – New York, N.Y.
  • Methodist University Hospital – Memphis, Tenn.
  • Northside Hospital – Atlanta, Ga.
  • University of Kansas Hospital – Kansas City, Kan.
  • University of Michigan Health System – Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center – Houston, Texas

LexisNexis maintains and analyzes data from more than 6 billion medical claims – quantifying patient volumes by clinical service line, care setting and procedure. The analysis also determined that California, Florida and New York have the highest volume of patients diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 – all with 600,000 or more cases. The number of patients receiving the most common breast cancer treatments in these states are as follows:

“Insights like these can help health systems determine allocation of resources, identify ways to improve care management and help to track therapy and procedure utilization trends,” said Abbey Bernardi, director of market planning, LexisNexis Risk Solutions. “Understanding the market dynamics for medical conditions like cancer can help healthcare organizations in areas like strategic planning, physician outreach and population health management. It’s a powerful advantage for providers when they can quantify various conditions, as well as their treatments, from a national perspective all the way down to the healthcare providers and locations delivering care.”

Other important areas of analysis include referral patterns and affiliations. They can help transform key business work streams including marketing, sales, market research, network optimization and recruitment.
