The study highlighted that 70% of respondents hired attorneys, but of that group, 15% never intended to seek counsel. Within this ebook, that group will be referred to as Attorney Unplanned.
Key findings from the research include:
A Series of Events Can Trigger Attorney Involvement
- The majority of the Attorney Unplanned claimants cite that a “series of events” during the claims process prompted them to hire an attorney.
- When asked more specifically what promoted them to hire an attorney, 61% of the group say it was because of the way things were going with the other driver’s carrier.
- Following that, 26% say they were encouraged by others (friends, family, etc.) to hire an attorney.
Communication Matters
- Forty-seven percent of Attorney Unplanned claimants cite poor communication from the carrier as the top reason they hired an attorney.
- Seventy-one percent of the Attorney Unplanned group say they were the ones to contact the other driver’s carrier first.
- Seven out of 10 claimants in the Attorney Unplanned group say they are asked to relay details of their accident more than two times during the claims process.
