The federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) caused a spike in Medicaid enrollment.

New rules required states to suspend normal eligibility redetermination processes in exchange for increased federal funding. As normal operations resume (“unwinding the PHE”), agencies will have to resume those eligibility redetermination efforts.
